The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has appointed Archbishop Tomasz Grysa as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, the Holy See has announced.
The appointment was confirmed on Thursday and communicated by Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim.
Archbishop Grysa, a Polish prelate and seasoned Vatican diplomat, replaces Archbishop Luigi Bianco, who was transferred to the Holy See’s diplomatic mission in Slovenia and Kosovo in May last year.
Until his latest appointment, Archbishop Grysa served as Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar, Seychelles and Mauritius, as well as Apostolic Delegate to Comoros and La Réunion.
Born on 16 October 1970 in Poznań, Poland, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Poznań on 25 May 1995. He holds a doctorate in Canon Law and entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in July 2001.
Over more than two decades in Vatican diplomacy, he has served in postings including the Russian Federation, India, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, the United Nations Permanent Mission in New York, Israel, and the Apostolic Delegation in Jerusalem and Palestine.

He was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros and La Réunion in September 2022. He later took on additional responsibilities as Apostolic Nuncio to Seychelles in February 2023 and to Mauritius in March 2023.
The new nuncio is fluent in Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian, in addition to his native Polish.
The Apostolic Nunciature in Kampala serves as the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to the Republic of Uganda, acting as both ambassadorial representation and liaison with the Catholic Church hierarchy in the country.
Archbishop Grysa is expected to present his credentials to Ugandan authorities in the coming weeks.
