The officer incharge of the child and family protection unit at Kabale Central Police Station, Karimanga Margaret has advised model men in the district to become good guilds to fellow men and offer them counselling services in order to end rising cases of domestic and gender based violence in the district
“The model men you are urged to always extend counselling services to your fellow men, sensitize on performing their responsibilities as heads of the family and building good families,” she advised.
Karimanga was speaking at a one day dialogue organised by Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) at St . John’s Batuza Church Of Uganda in Kamuganguzi sub county, Ndorwa West constituency in Kabale district.
She also imolored men to ensure equality in the distribution of family assets and wealth condemning polygamy and men who divide land into many portions when they marry different wives.
According to her, many men forget the good deeds done by their first wives and resort to giving attention to the worst things. She advised polygamous fathers to repent prioritize their first wives
Moses Akampurira, the Kabale district gender officer identified a need by men to prepare enough property marrying many wives and write proper wills to reduce land conflict among members of their families.
Drake Tayebwa, FOWODE field officer says the dialogue was aimed at sensitizing men and women on how to always handle family grievances at household level.
