Rukungiri District residents are actively engaging in exercise to fight jigger infections that have affected most parts of the district.
The successful fumigation exercise against fleas which has been on going in jigger infested Kikongi parish, Bwambara Sub County ended yesterday but is being extended to other infested areas.
The exercise wad a second phase in the area after the first phase which started in late December 2021 when the infection was declared.
The most affected areas are Rushebeya, Kateramo, Kateramo, Kikongi and Kempazi, all in Bwambara sub county. Over 400 families are reportedly been infected.
The fumigation exercise led by the Lion’s club community is meant to spray and kill fleas among homesteads as well as picking jiggers from the infected persons.
Humble Kabagambe, the Social worker and Chairman Lion’s Club Service calls for cooperation from all stakeholders inorder to defeat the infection and improving hygiene and sanitation among homesteads.
John Tumushabe, the LC1 Chairman Kateramo cell says his office is overwhelmed by affected residents who seek relief.
The Bwambara sub county Community Development Officer, Nahabwe Ronald said the sub county leadership team is set to conduct thorough fumigation of all affected areas and sensitize masses about improving their living standards.
He urged district leaders to come on board and fight the outbreak so that sanity can return to the affected people.
