A serious road accident was reported by Kiruhura District Police on October 3, 2023, at around 11:45 AM at Kibega near the Kibega checkpoint along the Lyantonde-Mbarara Highway in Kiruhura District.
The accident involved two motor vehicles, a red/white Zhong tong bus with registration number UBK 024T belonging to Tausi Bus Company and a black Subaru Forester with registration number UBK 866Z.
The victims of the accident were rushed to Mbarara Referral Hospital, including the drivers of both vehicles and a female passenger on the Tausi bus. The Subaru driver remains in critical condition.
According to initial investigations, the Subaru was travelling from Lyantonde to Mbarara while the Tausi bus was heading to Kampala. The Subaru driver was recklessly driving at high speed, which led to him losing control of his vehicle and colliding head-on with the Tausi bus from the right lane.
SP Kasasira Samson the PRO Rwizi confirmed the incident and told this paper that both vehicles were towed and are currently parked at Sanga Police station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.
