KAMPALA
Security forces attached to Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) have arrested two suspects on allegations of illegal possession of firearms in Karenga district.
IP Longole Mike, the Public Relations Officer for Mt. Moroto Regional Police/ASTU has identified the suspects as Lomeritum Lobwol Simon Peter, 30, a resident of Lokorio village. He was arrested on May 21, and led the security to his home where an SMG rifle with three live rounds of ammunition was recovered.
In a seperate incident, security also recovered an SMG gun from Gabriel Lokuda, 70, a resident of Komem village. This was after the suspect’s wife handed over the gun to authorities following her husband’s arrest on May 4.
According to IP Longole, the duo is currently under police custody. He said the arrests are part of the ongoing intensfied disarmament in Northern Karamoja.
“Our security agencies remain committed to maintaining peace and security in the region and urge the community to continue cooperating with them,” he said.
