Seven people have died on the spot following Wednesday evening fatal accident in Luweero along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
The accident occurred at Sinnalya, when a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBN 052L, collided head-on with a commuter taxi, registration number UBL 502Z.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the Fuso truck was speeding, which led to the fatal crash.
The Savannah Region Police spokesperson, ASP Sam Twineamazima confirmed the incident, and attributed the cause of accident to reckless driving by the Fuso truck driver.
“It was due to high speed and reckless driving on the part of the Fuso driver that this accident occurred,” he stated.
He said that casualties were rushed to nearby clinics, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Bombo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Twineamazima urged road users to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies. He noted that investigations into the accident are ongoing.
