The NRM Electoral Commission in Sembabule districh has declared President Museveni’s brother, Godfrey Aine Kaguta aka Sodo as the overall winner of the party’s flagbearer race for MP Mawogola North county Sembabule district.
In a hotly contested vote, Sodo scored 17,343 (46%) against Minister Sam Kutesa’s daughter, Shartis Musherure Kutesa who garnered 16,104 (42.7%) votes while Salim Kisekka became third after garnering 4,274 (12.3%) votes.
Voting was amid tight security after authorities suspended polls twice due to increased cases of violence. Voting in Mawogola North and West Sembabule were first suspended on September 4,and postponed to September28th but the NRM electoral body later postponed the exercise to today September30.
Heavily armed police commanded by the deputy IGP Maj Gen Sabiti Mzeeyi was deployed all over the district ro ensure there were no incitation of violence and insecurity in the polls.
In related news, Sembabule district Woman MP Hanifa Kawooya (incumbent) defeated Legislator Joseph Ssekabito Kitayimbwa in the Mawogola West county race.
The NRM electoral commission further announced and confirmed Mary Begumisa as the flagbearer for Sembabule district WMP after she won Jovans Twongeire and Phoebe Arinaitwe in polls.
Begumisa won with an overwhelming 72.9 percentage (73,94 votes), Twongyeire obtained 16.2% (16,448 votes) while Arinaitwe garnered 10.9 percent (11,011 votes).
Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party EC Boss was also in Sembabule inspecting and monitoring the voting exercise at various pollong stations.
