The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has ordered the interdiction of three top officials from Soroti University for allegedly causing a financial loss of over Shs460 million to the institution.
The officials, Robert Magemeso, the bursar, Abdallah Oyare Shaban, the deputy secretary, and Francis Elyebu, the principal estates officer, were charged alongside Richard Twebaze, the Managing Director of Karf Aqua Engineering Solutions Limited, for their alleged roles in the financial mismanagement.
According to the IG, the officials were accused of causing financial loss, issuing false certificates, and abusing their offices, contrary to sections 11(1), 20(1), and 25 of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009.
The accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro at the Anti-Corruption Court on June 4, 2024, and were each granted bail of Shs7 million cash. They were also ordered to deposit their passports in court.
The interdiction order, signed by Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, the Deputy Inspector General of Government, directs the Soroti University secretary to implement the interdiction with immediate effect. This move is part of the government’s efforts to tackle corruption and ensure accountability in public institutions.
