The Kiira municipality member of parliament and the FDC spokesperson, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has withhold plans to contesting for any position in the forthcoming coming party structure leadership elections.

The concealment follow speculations that the outspoken legislator is planning to contest for the party Secretary General position while others argued that he is interested in vying for the presidency.

“I am not here to declare candidature because you cannot declare candidature when there are no elections,” he said.

Ssemujju was speaking at the FDC National Consultative Meeting convened at Sharing Hall Nsambya Kampala on Monday (July 17) when he said his interest is not in holding an elective position but seeing the party operating on values of democracy.

FDC structure building elections were supposed to be conducted on June 19 starting from Village and Parish levels according to a roadmap issued by the party EC chairman Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda however, the exercise was suspended following internal fights involving to leaders.

Suspicious State House Money

It is alleged the party Secretary General Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi together with the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat received a total of Shs 7 billion from the State House in the run-up to the 2021 elections.

“It was brought in by the Secretary General. The Party President was one of the recipients. The President has told us in NEC that he subsequently passed on the amount he had been given to him to the party,” Hon. Ssemujju revealed.

The exact sum of money and it’s source escalated fights within the party which prompted the National Executive Committee (NEC) to institute an interim committee of elders to probe into the matter and report to NEC.

Francis Mwijukye, Buhweju county legislator also the FDC deputy head of treasury accuses SG Mafabi of turning the party into a personal business. He demands that the party treasury gives accountability of the alleged received money and other funds received from Inter-Party Organization Democracy (IPOD) alleging embezzlement in the party.

“I have been betrayed by my leader. I’m a fighter and you cannot betray me and I keep quiet…people should rescue their party before rescuing the country,” Mwijukye said.

Mafabi however, recently disregarded the allegations noting that they are meant to malign the party.

“The issue of receiving Shs 7 billion from President Museveni, on the other hand, is false and very absurd,” said Mafabi, adding, “Treat it with all the contempt it deserves.”

Parrots Media has learned that the party is set to hold an emergency NEC meeting on July 28 in which the committee will present a report.

New Structure Election Dates

On Monday, Toterebuka told journalists at the FDC headquarters Najjanankumbi that the party will elect leaders starting from villages to the district between 21 and 23 July, 2023.

“The party shall elect leaders starting from the village to the district then we shall hold a National Delegation Conference to elect NEC members,” Toterebuka said.
