Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the spokesperson for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has rallied the masses to go and vaccinate against COVID-19.
Ssemujju made the remarks on Monday while addressing the press at the FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi Kampala where he urged government to declare at least a two days public holiday to allow citizens get extra time for vaccination.
“We need to create mobile vaccination team to go and vaccinate these people wherever they are, we need to turn tertiary institutions into vaccination centres to enable in vaccination of students and staff and make it a requirement for all lecturers and students to vaccinate before accessing the university,” he said.
He further proposed for a vaccination plan to avoid forgery of vaccination cards by some members of the public.
During the address, the FDC condemned the ongoing kidnaps of persons by security agencies with in the country.
“FDC condemns the continued kidnaps of persons by security agencies especially by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Police Counterterrorism Squad. The latest victim was the Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanya who was granted bail by the High Court but was kidnapped by the people driving in a notorious drone. Up to now, his lawyers are still in vain trying to find where he is and four days later, his relatives cannot trace him yet he was kidnapped when the country was seeing,” he said.
Last week on Thursday, security agencies rearrested the Makindye West member of parliament, Livingstone Allan Ssewanyana shortly after he was released from Kigo prison on a court bail on charges of murder, attempted murder and terrorism in relation to the recent Masaka machette -wielding murders.
The FDC said the long detention without trial against MP Ssewanyana and others still at large violates the constitution demanding for their immediate release.
“We also read in the Newspapers that the manager of Kasamba Buses Mr. Swaleh Tinka who has been missing for days is also at Mbuya CMI headquarters, there is also a Rwandan lady, Jane Ngabire who was kidnapped from Munyonyo and her whereabouts are still unknown, their arrests are against the 48hrs arrest law.” Ssemujju said.
Ssemujju questioned the role of the military in the arrest of civilians demanding that all ordinary civilians illegally detained in various military detentions be produced before courts of law.
