The Opposition party Uganda People’e Congress (UPC) has challenged government to desist from politicizing the upcoming Local council and women council elections.
The government announced that elections for Local Council I (LC I), Local Council II (LC II), and Women Councils will be conducted between March and April this year.
However, UPC alleged voter apathy by the ruling government. Addressing journalists at party headquarters on Wednesday , UPC spokesperson, Sharon Oyat Arach stressed that local leaders act as a bridge linking between citizens and government institutions, noting that their election should not be politicized.
According to her, local leadership significantly impact the effectiveness of services delivery, she described LCI leaders as the backbone of local governance, handling critical community issues. She said residents must carefully choose responsible and committed leaders to serve them, without being influenced.
The party rallied its members to actively participate in the upcoming local council elections and urged Ugandans to vote for UPC candidates.
