Police in Kanungu District are holding a 20-year-old Senior Four student of Trinity College Butogota Secondary School over allegations of setting on fire the school’s male dormitory.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Elisa John had earlier been suspended from the school over repeated disciplinary offences.
Tumushime said the suspect allegedly returned to the school and joined other students during evening preparation before disappearing shortly before the fire broke out.
The fire was later contained by community members and police officers who responded to the incident, following a report by Wenst Muhwezi.
Tumushime confirmed that no injuries or loss of life were recorded during the incident.
A case of Arson was registered at Butogota Police Station under reference SD Ref 03/09/06/26.
have since commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire and possible motive behind the suspected arson.
