The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has announced that it will not extend the ongoing exercise for the expression of interest and picking of nomination forms for the party primaries. The process covers aspirants for various positions, including Members of Parliament (MPs), Local Council V (LCV) chairpersons, and Mayors.
The exercise, which began on June 2, 2025, is scheduled to end on June 14, 2025. By Thursday, June 12, over 2,200 aspirants had expressed interest in contesting for different positions across the country.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, emphasized that the party is committed to adhering to its electoral roadmap and urged aspiring candidates to comply with the set deadlines.
“Nominations will begin immediately after this phase, starting from June 17 to June 30, 2025,” Dr. Odoi stated. “The Central Executive Committee (CEC) will commence its vetting process on July 1, 2025, followed by campaign activities for MPs, LCVs, and other candidates, running until July 16, the day of polling.”

Among the aspirants who have picked nomination forms is David Kamuntu, who is seeking to represent Kibanda South in Kiryandongo District. Kamuntu pledged to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Kibanda road network, improve the education system, and enhance service delivery, particularly for unemployed youth in the area.
Meanwhile, John Bosco Edema, contesting for the Maracha County MP seat. He decried the high poverty levels in Maracha District, blaming local leadership for failing to lobby for development. “Many educated youths waste their time on betting and board games due to a lack of opportunities. This will change if I’m elected,” he vowed.
Other aspirants who have picked nomination forms include: Sam Atul current Mayor Lira City, Eddy Faustina Ojoko Kioga County Amurata District, Charles Peter Odoko From Agago District Agago County,Santusi innocent Kingi Telego East Constituency.
All the candidates have pledged to focus on improving service delivery in their respective constituencies if elected to serve in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
