In a powerful display of unity against HIV/AIDS, thousands of Ugandans participated in the 11th Edition of the Airtel-Kabaka Birthday Run held at Lubiri under the theme “Men against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child.”
The run which marks the upcoming birthday celebrations of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, aims to champion better public health in communities across Uganda. Since its inception in 2003, the annual run has successfully rallied Ugandans to support efforts in reducing the burden of diseases, with a focus on ending the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2030.
Airtel Uganda’s Managing Director, Manoj Murali, expressed gratitude to the overwhelming turnout and support from the people of Uganda towards the campaign to end HIV/AIDS. The partnership between Airtel and Buganda Kingdom has played a vital role in boosting various sectors such as health, education, and agriculture, thus improving the overall well-being of Ugandans.
The significant strides made in the fight against HIV/AIDS are evident in the remarkable decline of new infections among newborns and overall infections and deaths in Uganda. The efforts of the runners who participated in the previous editions of the Kabaka Birthday Run have contributed to the positive trend observed in the country’s fight against the disease.
Addressing the participants, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, acknowledged the support of the runners towards the health drive and emphasized the progress made in combating HIV/AIDS. The 11th edition of the run continues to champion the fight against HIV/AIDS, with the support of premium partner Airtel Uganda, whose commitment has yielded significant results for the nation.
As a socially responsible corporate organization, Airtel Uganda remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that have a positive impact on Ugandans, with a focus on improving livelihoods within Buganda and beyond.
