The Uganda People’s Defense Force has arrested three suspects on allegations of getting money by false pretence from families promising them to conscript their children into the army.
It is alleged that while holding as Military officers, the suspects whose identity was not disclosed for security purposes solicited money from families in Bugembe, Kakira and Budondo in Jinja city promising them to make way for the children’s entry into the national army.
Captain Edwin Mawanda, the Jinja Zonal UPDF spokesperson confirmed the arrests stating that the suspects are currently being interrogated at Gaddafi Barracks in Jinja to establish their intentions.
“We are investigating to find out who they are, why they use military yet they are civilians,” Capt Mawanda said.
He warned the general public against imposters using the force’s image for their personal interests stating that whenever there is a recruitment information is relayed to village security personnel and to the public in print and broadcast media.
He didn’t indulge into other details of the suspects saying that they are still under investigations.
