Three people have been arrested for suspected murder of a 54-year-old teacher in Kisoro.
They are Gerald Bagyenyi 35,
Monday Ezra 38 and, Thomas Arinaitwe 40, all residents of Birara village Kagunga parish Bukimbiri sub county Kisoro district.
The trio allegedly murdered Sunday Calist, 54, a teacher and resident of Nyakarembe village Kagunga parish Bukimbiri sub county Kisoro district.
Preliminary reports revealed that on 17th February, 2024, at around 0300hours, the suspects went to the home of the deceased who was in his bed with his wife sleeping and they called him that one of their residents, Allen Nyirabyiringiro was seriously ill and as their community norm they had gone to tell him such that they carry the patient to the hospital.
“He got out of his house and joined them to go and take the deceased to the hospital as they claimed. The wife of the deceased saw and identified the said persons as they called and went away with the deceased,” police reported.
It is further alleged that the deceased wife became so suspicious and followed them. She later discovered that her husband had been killed.
“The wife of the deceased was uncomfortable with the way her husband was invited and taken away and she decided to follow them up to the home of Agaba Ezra about 100m away as they claimed that they were to Agaba Ezra’s vehicle. Instead, she found the dead body of her husband lying in front of the house of Agaba Ezra.
Police from Bukimbiri police station visited the scene of crime and processed it. A postmortem was carried out at the scene of crime and the body handed over to the relatives for decent burial.
According to police, the body had fresh cut wounds in the head which was shattered.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the reports and said the suspects were arrested and are in police custody.
“Inquiries commenced to establish the motive for which he was murdered,” Maate said.
