BUSHENYI
Three people have died and 10 others sustained injuries in a Monday evening road crash along the Ishaka–Kagamba Road in Bushenyi District.
The crash occurred at about 4:40pm on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Omukatagu.
According to preliminary police investigations, the vehicle, Toyota Hiace Drone, registration number UA 836AM, was transporting mourners from Kashaka in Mbarara District to Rwererere in Rukungiri District via Ishaka–Kagamba Road when the driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a corner.
Police attributed the crash to excessive speed, saying the driver failed to safely negotiate the bend.
The injured victims were rushed to KIU Teaching Hospital and Kitagata Hospital for medical treatment.
The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety Police spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura confirmed this report, and urged motorists to observe speed limits, particularly when approaching corners and other high-risk sections of roads.
“Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to react and safely negotiate bends,” SP Kananura warned.
Police said investigations into the crash are ongoing.
