Three people have been confirmed dead and one other injured after a fuel tanker moving at a bottleneck speed knocked a motorcycle in Kisoro.
The incident occured on Monday (March 18) at around 18:00hrs at Airland hotel, Kabuga village, Chahi subcounty ino Kisoro district.
The accident involved two motor vehicles; a fuel tanker with Kenyan registration number KCH014ZK/F5477 scania type, Subaru motor vehicle registration number UBM445K white in colour and a motorcycle registration number UDW017N Bajaj Boxer.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said the accident happened when the driver of fuel tanker lost control and crossed to another lane knocking down a motorcycle and killing two people on the spot.
“The two people on motorcycle died on spot and both occupants in the Subaru Forester were injured. The third person, a passenger in the Subaru Forester died from Mutolere hospital as she was getting treatment,” Maate said.
He identified the deceased as Byaruhanga Junior, 22, a resident of Kanaba sub county Kisoro district and rider of the motorcycle, Niyonzima Erisa, 56, a resident of Gisasa village, Kanaba sub county Kisoro district a passenger on the motorcycle and, Byukusenge Federensi, 22, a resident of Gikoro village Nyakabande sub county Kisoro district, a passenger in the Subaru Forester motor vehicle, while the victim was identified as Dusabimana Mathious, 50, resident of shozi village, Nyakabande sub county Kisoro district a driver of the Subaru Forester.
Dusabimana has since been identified as the principle anesthetic officer Fort Portal Regional Referal Hospital.
The victims were rushed to Mutolere hospital for treatment and the bodies of the deceased persons were taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Maate added that the Motor vehicles and motorcycle involved in the accident were taken to Kisoro CPS pending inspection by IOV.
Police blamed the accident on over speeding and suspected break failure on the side of the fuel tanker number KCH 014K/ZF5477 whose unknown driver is on run.
“Efforts to have the suspect arrested still on, meanwhile as inquiries continues,” he said.
