The territorial traffic police in Kajjansi on Saturday 4th March, 2023, registered a serious accident at Entebbe -Expressway injuring eleven people.
The accident occured at a place called Kijapan along the Entebbe-Kampala Expressway at around 1400/C yesterday.
According to the director of the traffic police in Uganda and also the public relations officer ASP Faridah Nampiima, the accident involved three vehicles that included; motor vehicle registration number UBL 801L, Toyota Land cruiser; Motor vehicle reg no UAW 023Z Toyota/Hiace(Drone), and Motor vehicle registration number UBL 890 U, Toyota Hillux Double cabin.
“A total of eleven people were injured. They include seven people that were occupants of motor vehicle Reg No UAW, 023Z who have been identified as Dr Hassan Elnour Adam, a 53-year-old Sudanese by Nationality and a professor at Kordofan University in Sudan; Habab Hafiz aged 22 years a sudanese by Nationality and a student at Islamic University In Uganda; Mohamed Nour Taha aged 55yrs old, a Sudanese by Nationality and a lecturer at I.U.I.U; Dr. Zeinab Mohamed Hammad, a 60-year-old old, Sudanese by Nationality and professor at Khartoum University in Sudan; Dr. Awad Elkarim Suliman Osman aged 40 years, a Sudanese by Nationality and a professor at Kordofan University; Ssali Ibrahim, 29 years, an accountant at I.U.I.U Kibuli Kampala campus; Ssebyala Ayub aged 26 years old who was driving, while four people that include Makwasi Hussein aged 23 years and a student at Kyambogo university, and Katono Rehema aged 43 yrs old, the PRO/Lecturer at I.U.I.U and other 02 unidentified passenger were occupants of motor vehicle Reg No UBL 890U Hilux, “Nampiima said.
The victims were all rushed to Doctors hospital-seguku for medication.
It is alleged that the driver of Motor Vehicle UBL 801R Prado Land Cruiser was from the Entebbe side heading to Kampala via Expressway and on reaching Kijapan area, Umeme electric wire suddenly sagged across the road oad and immediately, the same driver stopped and switched on the parking Hazzard lights.
The driver Ssebyala Ayub of motor vehicle UAW 023Z Toyota Hiace who was following the latter also stopped and put in parking Hazzard. After a few seconds, a speeding Mv Reg no UBL 890U Toyota Hilux Double cabin driven by Akonye Alex rammed into the the Toyota Hiace (Drone) forcing it to hit the prado land cruiser.
Police have started a manhunt of the suspect (Alex Akonye) who is believed to have caused the accident but he is on run.
