MUKONO
One person was killed and several students injured after a train collided with a bus at Namumira–Bukasa Village in Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county, Mukono District, on Friday morning.
The crash occurred at about 6:45am along the Katosi Road when a bus transporting students of Mwebaze High School in Kakiri to Jinja District for an educational trip was hit by a train.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, one female passenger died on the spot, while several students sustained injuries in the collision.
Police officers, working together with other emergency responders, rushed to the scene to ascertain the situation.
“Injured passengers have been evacuated to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities for treatment,” Kawala said.
She said investigations are underway to establish the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities had not yet released the identity of the deceased by press time, pending notification of her next of kin.
The incident temporarily disrupted traffic along the Katosi Road as emergency teams responded to the scene and cleared the wreckage.
