At least two people have been confirmed dead after a Rukungiri board bus belonging to perfect coaches was involved in a fatal road accident.

The accident occured last night at round 2AM at Nkoko stage in Madula – Katovu subcounty , Lwengo district along Mbarara- Masaka road.

ASP Twaha Kasirye, the greater Masaka region police traffic police commander has identified the deceased as Shimon Musinguzi, 28 and a young baby Erist John Witington, 1yr and 8 month.

The baby’s mother (yet to identify) also sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mbarara hospital for emergency treatment.

According to Kasirye, the accident occurred when the driver of the bus registration number UBF052G from Kampala heading to Rukungiri was trying to dodge a speeding Lorry truck that was transporting Matooke from Mbarara to Kampala side. He blamed the accident on the excessively bright headlights and high beam headlights from the speeding Lorry truck causing the bus to overturn several times as it tried to dodge the truck.

Several other passengers, 17 in numbers aboard the bus were also injured in the accident and rushed to nearby health facilities in Lyantonde and Mbarara hospital.

The bodies of the deceased were according to Kasirye conveyed to Lyantonde health centre mortuary for a postmortem.

Parrots Media has also learned that one of the deceased, Shimon Musinguzi is the proprietor of a fashion and design business, Shimony Collections in Rukungiri town.

Police have already started inquiries into this accident
