The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has called on student leaders of Higher Institutions of Learning to priotize the love for their country urging them that it will help them to be better future leaders of this country.

“As Ugandans, we don’t have any second home, and we call it our motherland even those who have citizenship in America, they are called Americans with Ugandan origin,” Nabbanja explained.

” It is therefore, a must for us Ugandans to jealously defend, serve and love their country, even when when you get a small job here do it proudly and passionately because you will be serving your country,” she added.

The Prime Minister made the remarks during a lecture to over 800 student leaders of Higher Institutions who are undergoing a patriotism training program at Nkumba University on Tuesday.

She implored the young leaders to become ambassadors of Uganda’s heritage, promoting its values and traditions for future generations.

“Allow me to remind you that we are here as Ugandans because of the past regimes and by the time you become leaders in the future, Uganda will be among the most developed countries in the whole world.”She added

The Prime Minister further advised the student leaders to live exemplary lives and improve the welfare of those they serve. She emphasized the importance of leading with integrity, accountability, and selflessness, urging them to put the interests of their people above personal gain.

She encouraged the young leaders to become beacons of hope and positive change in their communities, inspiring others through their character and actions.

“I want you to tell you that this is the best course you have ever studied, some of us we are also the products of this very program and it has helped us to be where we are today,” said PM Nabbanja.

“Now that you have underwent this training,go and live exemplary lives, satisfy their needs without fear or favour because once you are patriotic, you understand patriotism, Pan-Africanism, democracy and socio-economic transformation you will never go wrong.” she urged.

Additionally, Nabbanja applauded Hellen Seku, the Commissioner of National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps ( NSPC) and President Museveni for spearheading the promotion of patriotism program among the young population.

She emphasized the importance of living responsibly and making informed choices, advising the trainees to prioritize their health and well-being, particularly by protecting themselves against diseases like HIV/AIDS.

“HIV/AIDS is real, I want to advise you to be careful with your lives, plan well for your lives, learn what to do, when and how, I assure you if I had not consciously lived my life I wouldn’t be here and I was going to miss to be what iam today and sometimes I try to remember about my friends but shockingly some died longtime ago due to HIV.” Nabbanja emphasized

The training, which commenced on January 3, 2025, aims to equip student leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to become informed and patriotic leaders.

It is part of the National Students Patriotism Club’s (NSPC) efforts to promote patriotism and national unity within the country.

President Museveni and First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Museveni will officially close the training on January 17.
