Ugandan state minister for Foreign Affairs has referred to the United Nations as a useless group after they revealed that they will not support the Ugandan national army UPDF operations in DRC.
This followed comments by the UN Stabilization Mission in DR Congo (MONUSCO) spokesperson Mathias Gillman on Wednesday that their mandate limits them from supporting the coalition’s force in DR Congo.
Responding to the UN officer’s statements, the minister for foreign affairs in charge of international relations Okello Oryem said Uganda does not need the help of the UN which according to him is considered a “useless group” that has preserved terrorism in DRC.
“We have no good words for them, they have been there for long but what have they done? As far as we are concerned, we do not want their military assistance, even if they offer us a cup of tea, we do not need it,” he said.
He urges that Uganda as members of the Security Council has a right to enter the territories of DR Congo even if there is the MONUSCO presence.
Meanwhile minister Oryem hailed UPDF efforts to disperse the ADF rebels in DRC expressing further plans between Uganda and DRC to end terrorism in both states.
“We did an aerial surgical attack with our artillery. It was precise and our jet fighters managed to hit the ADF camps without affecting the neighbouring communities,” said Oryem.
“The report I got yesterday is that we gave the ADF a bloody nose with our attacks on their camps. We are also preparing for possible retaliation that could come with these attacks on the ADF camp,” he added.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday while appearing on a television interview on NTV Kampala.
