As Primary Seven candidates tart their Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), UNEB has been asked to heavily punish individuals involved in examination malpractice.
Sharon Oyat Arach, Spokesperson of opposition Uganda People’s congress (UPC) says there is a need to put in place stringent measures against malpractice in the ongoing national exams.
She suggests that UNEB should not at any time give safe landing to those teachers involve in malpractice because they spoil reputation of Uganda’s education.
At least four teachers have been arrested and arraigned before court for allegedly sharing fake PLE exams on social media. The accused are Bakashaba Vincent, a teacher of Kimongole Primary School, Isingiro, Muheki Vincent, a teacher at Vision Primary School in Ibanda, Pabeku Albert, a teacher at Stoneridge Primary School in Kira, and Oyet Hosea, of Dignitory Junior School in Rukungiri.
They appeared before Kiira Magistrate’s court for plea taking on Tuesday 5th November, 2024, and pleaded guilty to the charges. The Grade One Magistrate, Kiira Magistrate’s Court, His Worship Seguya Ivan remanded them until Thursday (7th November) when they will return to court to receive brief facts about the offense.
A total of 798,771 candidates were registered to sit this year’s PLE Exams which is being conducted from 15,311 UNEB centers across the country. UNEB previously disclosed that they deployed over 13,600 scouts and security personnel to oversee the safe conduct of the on going PLE, including 600 personnel operating undercover.
During the weekly party press conference Sharon Arach Oyat said it’s good to allow pupils write their exams without any disturbance of malpractice, and warned heads of schools, teachers, parents and guardians against individuals masquerading as UNEB officials to fraud them.
