Government has been asked to build more HDU / ICU beds to solve the problem of acute shortage of oxygen to save the lives of Ugandans
The call has been made by Hon. Jimmy Akena, the UPC president speaking to journalists at party headquarters, Uganda House on Wednesday 21st December, 2022.
“UPC noted with serious concern that our health system lacked the necessary facilities to save lives due to lack of HDU/ICU beds , non-functioning elevators and lack of oxygen gas cylinders,” Akena said pointing out times of COVID-19 and Ebola outbreak
He proposes for building of more ICU capacity, research centres, training of medical workers and putting in place all medical inputs needed to enable Ugandans access quality medical services at a low cost.
In other words, UPC welcomed president Museveni’s directive to lift travel ban in Mubende and Kasanda districts over Ebola outbreak.
Akena further commended Frontline health workers for managing the spread of both ebola and covid-19 disease in the country.
Nevertheless, Akena urges Uganda to borrow a leaf from states like Cuba to have a team of volunteers that rescue affected individuals across the globe.
“UPC would want to see a permanent multi-sectoral National Task Force which can help a country to have preparedness incase of such abrupt outbreaks and mitigate on other adverse consequences,” says Akena
