Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has donated an iftar food package to muslims dwelling in Kasente Naguru to celebrate Eid as they end the Ramathan season.

The food items include sugar, rice, cooking oil and more. They were donated on Monday 8th April, 2024 at Naguru mosque, Nakawa division in Kampala.
Speaking during the handover of food items, Hon. Jimmy Akena, the president of UPC said other political parties have been inviting only dignitaries for Iftar dinners but UPC chose to reach out to large number of less privileged muslims who have been fasting in this Holy month of Ramadan.
“We believe the little we have been able to bring will touch people’s lives and be able to get them through these final stages of the fast,” Akena said.
He called for equal opportunities to all Ugandans regardless of one’s race, age, gender, religious and political affiliations.

Abdul Razak Ahmed, the deputy Imam of the mosque commended UPC for choosing to donate food items to their mosque noting they will receive blessings from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for the provisions made.
Abdallah Godo, the chairman of Naguru Main Mosque recalled that the person who set a cornerstone of this mosque was Akena’s Uncle, Akbar Akena Adoko which reflects a long-standing relationship between UPC and the the muslim communities in Uganda.

Muslims who received food items hailed UPC for the donation which they said will enable them to joyfully celebrate Eid.
