Government has been asked to introduced environmental friendly rural technologies to reduce heavy work for rural women in agriculture.
Sharon Arach Oyat, the party spokesperson says many women are doing heavy farm works which can be reduced by the use of digital technologies.
“For our rural women, the government should introduce environmentally friendly rural technologies to reduce heavy work in agricultural and industrial sectors as well as encouraging e-commerce to facilitate women empowerment as the world is increasingly getting digitalized” Arach said
According to Arach, encouraging science and technology will spur innovative solutions which help women and girls to unleash their
human capital.
Yesterday, Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate the international women’s day 2023 (March 8) and the national celebrations were held in Kiruhura district under the theme; “Equal Opportunities in Education, Science and Technology for Innovation and a Gender Equal Future”. The international theme of the day was; “Digit All: Innovation and technology for gender
equality”.
UPC calls for harnessing of energies and potentials of women contributing to the social, political, economic advancement in the country if government was to effectively plan for women.
“Recognition of women diversity must be appreciated which include; the women peasants who make up the bulk, the working-class, unemployed and business women in both rural and urban areas,” Arach said
In addition, the party proposes for integrated trainings for rural women to enhance their specialized knowledge for better opportunities.
Speaking at the celebration ceremony, president Museveni condemned the misbehavior of some orphaned children and heirs to evict widows from their properties something which abuses women rights on inheritance and succession of property.
