UPC’s Dr. Eunice Apio has been declared the winner of Oyam North parliamentary by-election.
“As the Returning Officer for Oyam Electoral District and in accordance with section 58(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act (as amended), I declare Eunice Otuko Apio who has obtained the largest number of votes to be the elected candidate for Oyam County North constituency, Oyam Electoral District,” Returning Officer Richard Onoba declared
According to the poll results released by Richard Onoba, Electoral Commission Returning Officer for Oyam district, Apio obtained a total of 1,5718 votes (51.2%) of the total 31,996 votes cast against NRM’s Samuel Okello Engola’s 1,5161 votes (47.38%)
Apio merges the victor to replace the late minister Col Charles Okello Engola (Rtd) who died on May 2 when he was killed by his military guard, Pte Wilson Sabiiti at his home in Kyanja, Kisaasi a Kampala suburb.

Other candidates, Fredrick Okello (FDC) got 714 votes while Daniel Okello (NUP), 403 votes, 1.2%

According to a return form by the Electoral Commission, a total of 32,1751 was a total of the ballot papers counted, 755 votes were rejected votes while the spoilt ballot papers were 37.
