ISINGIRO: Police in have commenced on investigations underwhich a 33-year-old cattle trader was allegedly tortured and killed by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel enforcing curfew.
The deceased is identified as Polita Bbale a resident of Kamaya village Endizi Town Council Bukanga county in Isingiro district.
He died a few hours after he was apprehended by security officers in Koranorya Trading Centre in Mbale sub county Bukanga.
An eye witness Joka Patrick Rwabushenyi said Bbale was sitting on a shop veranda with a bottle of soda which he was drinking when updf personnel arrested and forced him onto a waiting van that drove off to an unknown destination. Rwabushenyi explains that moments later, security officers returned and dumped Bbale’s body at the same place he was arrested.
When contacted to comment on the matter, the Isingiro district RDC Herbert Muhangi confirmed to the incident noting that investigations are underway.
“I have been notified about the incident and the DPC and UPDF commander in the district have visited the scene of the incident to establish the cause of Bbale’s death.” Muhangi explains.
He further disclosed that his office has received allegations that Bbale was assaulted by UPDF personnel but could neither admit nor deny the reports saying that an official report will be released.
