A Updf officer and legal assistant are under arrest over the alleged robbery at a mobile money shop and murder of a resident in Luzira.
On Friday (June 30) at approximately 21:30 hours, there were gunfires in Luzira Stage 7 Zone, Nakawa Division, Kampala district after armed robbers attacked a mobile money shop and went away with Shs72m.
It is alleged that shop operators Bahati Aggrey and Nyamukulu Annah were closing the shop when two armed thugs approached them. The assailants fired shots into the air, causing panic, and Bahati Aggrey managed to escape, leaving Nyamukulu trapped inside the shop.
The criminals proceeded to break into the shop and stole a total of Shs 72,000,000 (Seventy-two million shillings).
SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said the thugs discharged firearms as residents attempted to intervene in stopping them to flee the scene.
One person identified as Ssenyondo Richard, 38, businessman in Mutungo Nakawa was shot dead while Nakigudde Betty was injured and she is receiving treatment.
Police swung into action and managed to arrest two suspects while one of the thugs successfully evaded capture.
Onyango has identified the suspects as Guma Vincent, 34 years, a soldier, resident of kikubamutwe army barracks along Kayunga road and Darglous Mugerwa, 47, Legal Assistant, a resident of Lake side Luzira, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.
“An AK-47 firearm was recovered as evidence. A team of police officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Police East and Jinja Road Police Division visited the crime scene and recorded statements from relevant witnesses”. Onyango said
The body of the deceased was taken to city mortuary Mulago for a postmortem. And the suspects are detained at Jinja road police station as police investigation to bring all those responsible to justice are ongoing
