Legislators are on the verge of losing their security escorts (bodyguards) who were given to them by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) if they continue misusing them in their political careers.
This come after a number of politicians basically from the ruling party- NRM are allegedly using security to suppress their political opponents.
Brig.Gen Flavia Byekwaso, the UPDF Spokesperson warned that members of parliament who use their escorts for political gains that they will be withdrawn from them.
“It has come to our notice that many members of Parliament across the political divide who were given military escorts for their security in the wake of armed criminality last year have started misusing these soldiers in the current political season,” reads excerpts of the UPDF press release.
She appealed to UPDF Soldiers not to be misused by their masters for their political gains.
The warning has also been directed to contenders of political offices who have been advised not to involve or misuse soldiers and police officers assigned to ensure MPs’ security.
