Bushenyi: Valley University of Science and Technology is set to conduct Guild elections and other leaders on the campus.

The University electoral commission Chairperson, Mugumya lgnitious says the commission has released the electotal roadmap to enable interested candidates to contest as Guild President and other positions to prepare on time.

“The roadmap is already out for the students to follow as the elections are under way,” Mugumya disclosed.

According to the released roadmap, the university EC body has designated 5th-21st April as dates for picking of clearance for all candidates at various positions, 22nd April as vetting day of the candidates while April 23 has been set as the nomination day.

The EC further scheduled April24 to May 10 for general campaigns and 12th May as Open Air campaign dates.

The Electoral Roadmap issued by the EC at VUST to guide candidates in guild polls.

As a modern-tradition in politics of many education institutions in Uganda, VUST will on May14 hold presidential debate for all nominated Guild Presidential candidates. However, the EC was did not disclose whether the debate will be televised and scientific due to the precedents of COVID-19.

To contain the possible of the deadly coronavirus disease, the EC has urged all candidates to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the electoral processes.

Parrots UG learned that Mugumya’s EC has set May 15 as the polling dates when students will choose their guild president and other representatives.

Valley University (VUST)  is the third university to be established in the greater Bushenyi district after Tycoon Basajjabalaba’s Ishaka KIU- Western Campus and COU’s Ankole Western University- AWU Kabwohe.

VUST is located in Bushenyi few footsteps from the district Headquarters. It also accommodates a popular Valley College providing both secondary and post secondary (HSC) education services.
