A circulating video on social media indicate the rooftop of a building that accommodates Equity Bank has collapsed.
The two storied building is found at Wekembe market Kutano, Kawempe Division Kampala, it is alleged that it was deroofed during the afternoon rains on Wednesday.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Depity Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the collapsed rooftop material has fallen in the middle of the road causing traffic congestion.
“Due to heavy rains , the roof top at Equity Bank building located at Wekembe Market , Kutano , Kawempe Division , Kampala city has been blown off . Unfortunately it fell into the road and this has caused alot if traffic Jam,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police fire and rescue team is at the scene to normalise the situation as well as removing materials blocking the road. Owoyesigyire has advised motorists to use alternative roads.
“Efforts are on by our teams from Fire and rescue services to have the situation normalised by removing safely all that is blocking the road . There4 , we would like to advise motorists to use alternative routes to access or leave the city center.” He said.
Businesses have been brought to a standstill at the said building. No fatalities had been recorded by press time. More Details follow
