As Uganda gears up for the upcoming elections for youth and other Special Interest Groups, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) is expressing confidence in securing the majority of seats.

“UPC is hopeful to win majority of SIGs seats,” said Arach Sharon Oyat, Party spokesperson.

Arach made the remarks during a press briefing at their party headquarters Uganda House Kampala on Wednesday.

It should be recalled that Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama’s Independent Electoral Commission commenced the conduct of nomination of village SIGs candidates on Monday 2nd June and the exercise is ongoing up to June 10, 2025. According to the EC, polling for village SIG Committee is slated from 16-19th June, 2025.

UPC has implored party members to largely participate in these elections.

“All flag bearers for SIGs who have not yet picked nomination forms are called upon to do so from the designated IEC offices across the country,” she emphasized.

Relatedly, the party will hold its nationwide village executive elections starting with Lango sub region on June 12, before proceeding to other regions. The election will thereafter proceed to parish executives, sub-county, county and district/city executives, according to the party roadmap.

Arach urged party members across the country to massively mobilize and get ready for all these elections.
