A 21-year-old woman in subcounty , Nakapiripiriti district on Thursday (November 16) committed suicide by hanging following a debt dispute with her biological brother.
The deceased, Hellen Nachap reportedly borrowed Shs7,000 from her brother Isaac Munga promising to pay him back on Thursday but did not pay. When the lender came to pick the money, the deceased admitted she was unable to pay and asked for an extra day in vain.
This developed into a misunderstanding between the two prompting Nachap to run away while anguished. Moments later, her body was discovered hanging lifeless on a tree in a nearby bush.
Feeling humiliated and miserable , Mungan also attempted suicide after learning about his sister’s tragic death. But, he was rescued by the residents who later handed him to police.
Micheal Longole, the Karamoja police spokesperson confirmed to reports of Mungan’s arrest saying that he will help police in investigation.
“We have Mungan in our custody, and he will assist us with further investigations,” said Longole.
