Police in Mubende on Wednesday (September 20) arrested a woman on allegations of killing a female colleague after she confronted her over suspected love affair with her male friend.
It is reported that on September 19, 2023 at around 1600hrs in the evening, Provence Kabafuruki, 50, a resident of Kalo Kalungi Central Village, Lubimbiri Sub-county, Mubende District confronted her neighbour who killed her using a sharp machete.
SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson identified the suspect as Joselyn Nahwera, 30, a resident of the same village.
According to Kawala, both the deceased and the suspect had been residing in the same rental houses recently in Ssendegeya at Kalokalungi Village in Mubende District.
It is alleged that the deceased had suspicions about Nahwera’s romantic involvement with her friend Kashari Julius.
This prompted the deceased to confront the suspect resulting into a violent altercation.
Police further reported that both the deceased and the suspect were armed with machetes but the deceased was overpowered and deeply cut on her hand, palm, and neck resulting into death.
“Tragically, the deceased succumbed to her injuries and bled to death at the doorstep of the suspect,” police reported
Police was informed and arrived at the scene where rescued Nahwera (suspect) from being assaulted by angry residents.
The suspect was arrested and admitted to a clinic in Lubimbiri Trading Centre where she is currently receiving medical treatment while the victim’s body was transported to Mubende referral hospital for a postmortem.
SP Kawala said they recovered two machetes used by both the victim and the suspect and were taken as exhibits, and the investigation is ongoing.
