KAMPALA:
Police in Namanve is investigating circumstances under which a woman was killed in a hit and run accident while she was inspecting her car.
The fateful incident occurred at Teganjalu Namanve Mukono District after a speeding vehicle knocked down a woman identified as Patricia Nabugabo, who had came out to inspect her car that had been scratched by a UPDF truck in jam on Sunday.
Nabugabo was reportedly returning from an introduction party when she met her death.
Faridah Nampiima, the Spokesperson Directorate of Traffic Police said that Nabugabo was driving her car registration number UBJ 255S Toyota Sienta White in colour at Jomayi Nantabulirwa on Sunday December 19, around 00:30 AM along the Kampala-Jinja Highway when an unknown vehicle believed to belong to the army scratched her car.
“She was knocked and came out to check her car. That is when another unknown vehicle knocked her to death,” she said.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire has described the accident as a hit and run.
“This was a hit and run fatal accident. It’s true the lady was scratched and when she got out to inspect her vehicle, an overtaking vehicle hit her and kept ongoing,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
Nampiima however said that police retrieved CCTV footages at the scene which they will use to hunt for the two drivers; the one that first scratched Nabugabo’s car and the driver of a vehicle that knocked her dead.
She implored drivers road users always to park on the safe side of the road whenever there is a problem.
“We want to urge all road users, that where you get challenges on the road, park on the safe side of the road to avoid incidents like this one,” ASP Nampiima urged.
Nakabugo’s body was taken to City Mortuary for a postmortem. May Her Soul Rest In Peace.
