The Uganda Police Force in Bukedea district has confirmed that at least one of the suspects who were arrested in connection to the Murder vide CRB 676/2022 of Francis Opolot has committed suicide inside Bukedea Police Cells while another suspect suddenly died in the hands of police officers.
The murder suspect; Micheal Ojakol hanged himself inside Police Cells while Joseph Okwalinga fainted and later died in Police hands.
The two, now deceased suspects were among the seven that were arrested by police in connection to the murder of Opolot Francis, a resident of Akonyuko village, Apaanga Parish, Kachumbala Sub County in Bukedea District over a land-related wrangle.
Opolot was killed on Saturday the 25th December 2021 where it is alleged that an individual dressed in black a black jacket, armed with a panga cut him at the back of his neck and jaw leading to his death.
According to Ageca Oscar Gregory the East Kyoga Police Spokesperson, Michael Ojakol On the 1st January 2022 was arrested by police for facts surrounding the Murder of Francis Opolot.
He was found hanging inside the cells having allegedly committed suicide using his clothes.
Ageca told Parrots Ug that the deceased suspect was alone in the cell at the time of the incident.
The deceased suspect Ojakol was brother to the late Opolot Francis who was murdered on the night of 25th December, 2021.
He also confirmed that another murder suspect Joseph Okwalinga alias Golola was also reported to have fainted while in a search at Akunyuko village with Police who tried to resuscitate him before rushing him to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Ageca revealed that Police has opened up inquiries into the two matters of suicide and sudden death respectively.
He also denied the allegations that the suspects were shot or poisoned by security personnel.
“I also want to allay fears and insinuations of foul play such as that the suspects were shot, poisoned etc, as the matter has been professionally handled by our officers who investigated the murder in a logical sequence which enabled the arrest of suspects and have admirably and professionally handled the deaths of the suspects.” He noted.
