By Leonard Kamugisha Akida,
KAMPALA:
A source close to the Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, has admitted to reports that the former is admitted at a hospital in Nairobi after he collapsed on the New Year’s eve.

The however dismissed reports that the governor is in coma explaining that he is experiencing diabetes complications according to the doctors doctors.

“He collapsed but was quickly airlifted to Nairobi together with his doctors for further management. Doctors say he has diabetes complications but he is getting better,” the source added; “He is old and at that age, such complications are expected for everybody. We only pray that he makes it back healthy and strong, because the nation needs him.”

At the beginning of this year, several blogs reported that the governer was in critical conditions claiming that he has been out of his office for a couple of weeks.

It was later established that Mutebile has been admitted at Nakaseero hospital receiving diabetic treatment and when conditions worsened, he was recommended to a specialized hospital in Kenya.

Bank of Uganda Communications Director, Charity Mugumya could neither admit nor deny admission reports but the governor is out of the office on a scheduled health check.

“It is not true that the governor is ill and admitted in Kenya. He is simply on a scheduled health check and will be right back when he is discharged,” she said.

This is not the first time the governor is admitted to hospital after fainting. In March 2020, media reported that he was critically ill after he allegedly collapsed.

The Central bank first denied reports saying that he was working from home but later admitted that he was unwell and admitted to a hospital in Nairobi.

“Governor was unwell. His doctors attended to him and he is currently recovering very well,” Mugumya contradictred.

Up on his return, Mutebile faulted the troubled Media Company, RedPepper for trading the news of his failing health.
