The quest for equal payments to teachers’ salaries has intensified as former Kasese municipality MP Robert Centenary joins hundred of thousands people demanding that government address issues raised by the striking teachers on equity in paying of salaries

“If a bar of soap goes to Sh10,000, it does not discriminate whether you’re a science or arts teacher. Why doesn’t government bring equity especially in payments?” Former legislator asked

He says that discriminatory salary enhancements do not only affect teachers but also other civil servants with in the government.

Centenary was speaking to journalists at the officiating of the FDC candidates for Busongora county South in Kasese district and Bukimbiri county in Kisoro district at party headquarters yesterday.

In addition, the former outspoken legislator urged government to address the issues raised by the teachers to allow learners return to schools for academic activities

“Those that are in positions of making critical decisions about the increment and balancing of the salaries of the teachers, their children are going to international schools who curriculum is ongoing,” Centenary roared before adding

“Our children had lost two years during the Covid lockdown, and this is a third year that same powers are increasing. We’re losing three generations as the country as a result of reckless and insensitive decisions that the people who are misusing powers that belong to Ugandans are taking.”

He scorned to the State House Anti-corruption Unit (SH-ACU) led by Brig Gen. Henry Isoke and the Inspectorate of Government headed by IGG Beti Tirwomwe Kamya of expecting Ugandans to be loyal and non-corrupt amid harsh economy

“The officials from SH-ACU and the IG are arresting local gov’t officials. How do you expect people to survive in a country where its becoming difficult to afford a Kilogram of posho that is now costing Sh4,000 and you expect them to be loyal and Anti-corrupt? That’s impossible!” He said

On Monday, the FDC deputy president for Rwenzori region Hon William Nzoghu unveiled Hon. Alosious Kighema Baguma and Hon. James Owebeyi, the fdc parliamentary candidates for Busongora county South and Bukimbiri county by elections respectively. The two seats were recently declared vacant after court nullified election in the counties over ballot stuffing, voter bribery among other irregularities.
