Brian Ndibarema, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate for Makerere University 88th Guild Presidential election has expressed readiness to regain the party’s lost glory in Makerere politics.

Known for its past stronghold history, Ndibarema said together with the support of the party and students,he will reclaim Makerere University to UPC contol.

“UPC has a legacy of leadership at Makerere University which they should take advantage of,” Ndibarema reminded

This was on Thursday (June 7) morning when he had gone to receive blessings from the party leadership at Uganda House in Kampala.

During a meeting with the party, Ndibarema received a facilitation to aid him in a smooth running of the campaigns. The facilitation was presented to him by the party Secretary General Hon. Fred Ebil in company of the Makerere University UPC chapter, John Baptist Ssemwanga.

He hailed the spirit exhibited by the UPC urging the party to mobilise support for him among the students’ fraternity.

“I urge my party to tag the campaign message to tangible concerns of students at the University with alternative policies focused on addressing such issues.” Ndibarema implored

Ndibarema will be facing off over 16 candidates who have so far been nominated by the university’s Electoral Commission. These include Namirembe (DP), Hussein Ibra (NRM), Isaiah Mpiirwomugisha (ANT), Alion Lawrence (NUP) and Justus Tukamushaba (FDC). Others are contesting as independents.

According to the University EC, tbe nominated candidates will have a joint campaign scheduled today, Thursday July7, afternoon.

The EC also set July 15th the polling date when students will vote their suitable Guild candidate. The elected candidate will unseat incumbent NUP’s Shamim Nambasa whose term of office is nearing expiry.

Muzeyi Faizo, head of media and communication at UPC has hailed party leaders led by president Jimy Akena for wise leadership and commitment to supporting young people to move UPC forward.
