The police has so far arrested four suspects following the murder of Mr. Charles Robert Ogwal, the COA of Buko district who was murdered on 8th July, 2022, at Kiyowa village along Bombo road.

Among the suspects that have been arrested include the deceased driver, Eric Kyimusito and one other man whom they (police) found hiding in the nearby bush where the murder took place among others.

According to police, investigations at hand shows that the murderers were well trained and had been following the COA’s routes while in Kampala.

Reports further indicates that when Ogwal reached at Kiyowa village, he was stopped by armed men who asked him to identify himself and after confirming that he was the right person they wanted, they shot at him bullets and then burnt his car.

The spokes person of the Uganda police, CP Fred Enanga confirmed to the journalists at the police headquarters Naguru that the act was well planned stating that the assailants knew what they were doing and whom they wanted to kill.

“ Before the COA was murdered he first completed his work that he had come to do in Kampala ant there after he set off to Lira. However, at Kiyowa village in Gombe Division along Bombo road, he was stopped by armed men who shot home several times  and then burned his car with an aim of destroying the evidence,” the deceased allegedly told a medical worker at Bombo hospital before his death

Police further obtained information from two other persons who witnessed the murder and had also been admitted to same hospital after a road accident. They told police that the assailants were recording the attack on phone.

“We also got on a very clear account from two other victims who were driving a tri-cycle, registration number UFF849H, who were also rushed to the hospital, after their tri-cycle, over turned and injured them. They clearly narrated how they fled to a nearby bush when the gunshots began, and how the attack was being recorded on a smart phone, by one of the assailants for their proof,” said Enanga

“We do strongly believe that the victim was targeted. The killing was not random but pre-meditated, pre-planned and targeted. At this stage, the motive of the fatal shooting has not yet been determined, although we rule out robbery or domestic terrorism,” he added

Police recovered 26 cartridges, grey jacket, gun butt, blood specimen and empty tins of yoghurt from the scene of the crime.

The wreckage of the burnt double cabin pick-up and the motorcycle were also removed from the scene.

The police assured Ugandans that they are still investigating the case pledging to arrest all the perpetrators involved in the act.
