Residents in Kamwokya 2C, also known as Church zone on Saturdah woke up in sombre moods after blacksmith news of the murder of their councillor, James Kakooza.
Kakooza was early this morning killed by unknown assailants on a Boda Boda who hit him with a hammer on the head killing him instantly.
A close family source told Parrots UG Kakooza left his home in the ewee morning hours for his daily morning physical exercises popularly known as “Dduyiro”
He was killed at centenary park in Kampala.
Kakooza’s name came into limelights last year after he won an election as the LCIII councillor in Kamwokya 2C (Church Zone), a National Unity Platform stronghold area.
Kakooza was elected LCIII councillor with 1,503 votes defeating NUP’s Francisco Bwambale who garnered 493 votes. Other candidates in the race included an independent candidate Frank Kilule who got 27 votes, FDC’s Stephen Agaba 15 votes and DP’s Denis Mpoza got nine votes. He attributed his win to the good mobilization done by his campaign team.
During his time as the area councillor, the deceased has been at the frontline of fighting against criminality in Kamwokya something that people say could have resulted into his brutal death.
The Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has condemned the acts targeting vibrant leaders and councillors calling on police and other security authorities to investigate the cause of attacks on leaders.
The death of Kakooza comes barely two weeks after unknown people attacked and beat the NUP councillor, Jeremiah Keeya Mwanje, LCIII councillor for Lubaga North
Mwanje was unconsciously beaten and he is receiving treatment in a hospital in Kampala
