Police in Mayuge district are holding a man for allegedly murdering his wife and later attempted to commit suicide
The suspect is Muzamiru Malevu, 38, a resident of Kavule zone Mayuge town council in Mayuge district.
He allegedly killed his wife Zakia Saala, 19, in alleged ritual murder. The couple had been married for one year.
Malevu’s arrest followed suspicions by residents after they say stray dogs over roaming around his house without any of the occupants responding to chase them away.
The residents then forcefully broke into the house where they found that the suspect was attempting to commit suicide by hanging.
They immediately searched the house and discovered Saala’s lifeless body locked up in the bedroom.
According to reports, the deceased had deeper wounds in her private parts and neck, suspected to have been killed in ritual murders.
Bashir Siriba, the Mayuge District Police Commander were informed and rushed to the scene of the crime.
The deceased body was conveyed to Mayuge health centre IV mortuary for a postmortem while the suspect has been arrested and detained at Mayuge central police station awaiting prosecution.
Immediately after being arrested, angry residents turned to Malevu house and demolished it noting that he does not fit to live in their community.
