A suspected thief was lynched by a mob in Shuku town Sheema district on Thursday night, following a botched robbery at a retail shop in the town.
Another suspect identified as John Kusasira, the victim’s father escaped unhurt even as the irate residents launched a manhunt for him.
The victim, in his 25s was described by the residents as a notorious burglar, who alongside his father had been terrorizing businessmen and residents in Shuku town by breaking into their business premises and houses at night.
The residents decried rising cases of insecurity marked by shop and home break-ins.
ASP Marshal Tumusiime, the spokesperson for greater Bushenyi police has identified the deceased as Bosco Kasasira while his father is John Kusasira, both residents of Rutoma cell, Kyempisi Ward, Shuuku Town council in Sheema District.
According to Tumusiime, the duo was on the night of Thursday (August 11) caught red-handed attempting to break into a shop of a one Anthony Ssekate.
The father, John Kusasira escaped but the mob managed to sorround the victim (Bosco Kusasira) whom they beat to death
Police arrived to the scene of the crime and recovered two pangas as exhibits while the deceased body was taken to Shuku health centre IV for a post-mortem
No arrests have so far been made.
