Uganda National Examinations Board UNEB has withheld the results of 113 candidates for alleged exam malpractice and irregularities

This was disclosed the UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo at the release of the 2022 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) at the Office of the Prime Minister, Kampala on Friday.

He noted that this was mainly in the subjects of Mathematics, Biology and Computer Studies.

“Honourable Minister, cases of malpractice at this level have remained low. The reported ones have been mainly external assistance in Mathematics, Biology and Computer Studies”

He therefore confirms that; “in accordance with Section 4 (3) of the UNEB Act, 2021, the Board has withheld the results of 113 candidates and will accord the affected candidates a fair hearing before passing a final verdict”

The examination had a total candiature of 97,890 candidates from 1969 centers compared to 98,392 candidates from 1952 centers in 2020. Out of these, 41.8% were females and 58.2% males.

According the released results, female candidates performed better than the males.

“In terms of percentages, the female candidates performed better than their male counterparts at the principal level pass (A-E) in Arts (Humanities), Mathematics and Physics. Male candidates were better in Agriculture and General Paper” Odong pointed out.

The number of femles that registered was 40,713 compared to 41,190 in 2020.

Also, the board noted an increase in the number of special needs who sat for the 2022 UACE exams from 208 in 2020 to 222 candidates last year.
