The Buganda clans’ football and netball tournament 2023 has officially kicked off earlier this day at Mutesa II Royal Memorial stadium Wankulukuku.
The tournament started with a netball match opening which was officiated by the Kingdom’s Katikkiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga at 8am
His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is expected to officiate at the opening of the football match between Engabi Vs Enkyima clans at 3pm.
The Buganda clans football tournament started in 1950 and 2023 tournament is the 49th competition. Its well known that the Emmamba _Gabuuga clan have been the overall champions of the tournament with 10 trophies but, in 2022 Endiga clan became the defending champions of the football tournament after they won against the Lugave clan in 1-0 match at wankulukuku.
Speaking to reports, the minister for youth affairs and sports in Mengo government, Ssekabimba Henry Kiberu warned wrongdoers against committing crimes in and outside the stadium.
“Security has been heightened bat the premises to prevent any possible crime. Those intending to come with hidden motifs of pickpocketing and snatching other people’s properties like mobile phones, handbags or cause havoc in and outside the stadium are hereby cautioned against these insecurities”
The tournament is supported by Airtel Telecom, Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC), CBS radio and BBS Terefayina. The Match will be broadcasted live on 88.8 CBSFM “Eyobobujajja” and 89.2. CBS FM “Emmanduso”. Entry fee is she 2,000 for students and between she 10,000 and 20,000 for adults.
