Uganda People’s Congress has asked government to enter into peace talks with the Allied Democratic Force (ADF) rebels terrorizing areas of Rwenzori to create peace in the region.
The call comes days after the rebels attacked Lhubiriha secondary school in Mpondwe Kasese and neighboring communities killing 42 people including students.
Speaking to journalists at their party headquarters on Wednesday, the upc spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat advised government to use the realesed Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere to mediate peace talks between the government and rebels.

“Government should look into these rebel attacks affecting Rwenzori sub region in a broader context, restore hope and guarantee the security of our people not only in Kasese, but also in the entire country. This can be achieved through exploring engagements and peace talks where necessary as it was the case with Northern Uganda”, she said.
She noted that such peace talks brought peace and sanity in the Northern part of Ugandan that was largely affected by the LRA war between 1986-2005.
