MBARARA
Ten individuals have narrowly escaped death in a road traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of the morning. The victims were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where they received urgent medical attention from a dedicated team of health workers.
Halson Kagure, the hospital Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and revealed that the accident took place in Nyeihanga and involved family members returning to Kampala from Kisoro after attending a relative’s burial.
Preliminary reports indicate that the casualties had taken a taxi that they had hired from Kampala to Chanika. Survivors recount that the driver fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a parked vehicle. After the accident, the driver fled the scene, fearing for his safety.
The hospital staff responded swiftly to the emergency call and managed to stabilize the unconscious victims, some of whom had head injuries and scratches on their bodies. One female casualty of Congolese origin had sustained a fracture. The hospital’s Department of Surgery was called in to assess those who required surgery.
The hospital administration praised the health workers for their efforts in saving the lives of the ten victims. At present, their condition is being evaluated pending discharge.
