The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has tasked government to mobilize resources for conducting Local Council 1 and 2 elections.
This is after the term of LC1 and LC2 Chairpersons expired on 10 July and since then their operations were considered illegal yet the government has not taken appropriate action to renew the terms.
Sharon Arach Oyat, party spokesperson says the delay to hold election of leaders undermines the power of the vote and democracy.
“UPC is fully aware that democracy is expensive and we have to meet its cost by all means. Our national budgets should always be tailored to meet such electoral needs. These are some of the important areas that can meaningfully call for a supplementary budget,” Sharon said.
She added that the affected office bearers are finding difficulties to sign key documents and preside over important meetings because validity of their decisions can be challenged in courts of law.

Additionally, the UPC Spokesperson announced that the Member of Parliament (MP) elect for Oyam North Constituency Dr. Eunice Otuko Apio will be swearing in on Thursday 20th July 2023 at the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and that is when she will start to officially serve the people of Oyam North and the country at large as a Legislator.
